Our Mom, Our Story

February 4th, 2020

As many of you know, My brother Michael  and I have an incredibly close connection to our  mother, known to many of you as “Bear."  Bear agreed to move to California 12 years ago which began a most amazing and rich new chapter of our lives.   We have  been so fortunate to have had a wonderful network of  supportive  friends  throughout life’s journey.  Many of you have checked in with me regarding mom’s progress or have developed your own relationship with her. We are so very grateful for the support and the good times we have shared with friends, clients and Bear.

Bear has dedicated her life to Michael and I, her two cubs. We are grateful beyond expression for these last years we have shared together.  We are indeed Best Friends with our Mom. Over the last few years, Mom has endured debilitating bone on bone hip pain. She can now barely stand up on her own and has begun calling us in the middle of the night in agonizing pain. We are moving forward with a hip restoration on March 2nd followed by several weeks at a rehab. center. During this period, Bear will require 24/7 supervision and will  need additional financial assistance moving forward. Michael and I are now supplementing her income to provide the care she needs.

I know that many of you may have similar stories and/or life in California or beyond 2020  is just darn expensive. So please, don’t feel any obligation to join these  upcoming Kayaking events listed above. I have created an account where by 100% of the proceeds will go to Mom’s care after surgery and back home at Sunshine Villa Assisted Living.  Good thing that I can say in all truth  I love my job as I continue to cover 100's of salty miles for the best cause possible, Mama Bear.

We have 4 trips to choose from and we are excited to share all the “babies” with you…..baby sea otters, baby seals, cormorant chicks and perhaps a nursing gray or humpback  whale calf!

If you can’t join us kayaking but would like to make a small  donation to Bear’s Fund, here’s a link to our Payment Center: https://www.bluewaterventures.org/PaymentCenter.htm or

by check to Kim Powell at: 127 Mason St Santa Cruz CA 95060.   Be sure to put  “Bear” in the memo.

If these dates  don't work out for your schedule, you may contact me for a private tour or refer Blue Water Ventures to a corporate team building group, school or other organization.

My brother Michael  is currently in Hawaii providing  artwork  to a very unique private school’s yearly auction. Michael  has supported non profit organizations  throughout his 35 year career as an artist donating artwork for their yearly fundraisers.  Michael’s  oil paintings are truly inspiring as he captures the essence of Hawaii’s exquisite scenery. His magnificent work also  includes abstracts and scenery of California and Oregon where he currently resides.  Michael is working on a plan to donate proceeds to Bears Care through the  purchase of his artwork. Please email me for more information.

Thank you all for the years of support.
