During this special combination of activities, we will start our trip in La Paz and end our trip in Loreto. We suggest that you book a one way flight into San Jose Del Cabo arriving on November 15th.
Some people opt to arrive into San Jose Del Cabo or La Paz a day or so early which is another consideration. It’s easy to catch a shuttle from San Jose Del Cabo to La Paz if you arrive early or explore the town of San Jose Del Cabo then meet us at the airport on November 15th. Please email for suggestions.
You will find the best connection and airfares via San Jose Del Cabo (SJD airport code).
We recommend that you arrange a flight that arrives into San Jose Del Cabo no later than 3:00pm as the transfer to La Paz will take about 3 hours after clearing customs. If you arrive into San Jose del Cabo later than 3:00pm, that’s OK but you will miss dinner with us that first night.
An arrival into San Jose del Cabo before or around 1:30pm is ideal allowing you to join our private van shuttle to La Paz.
Our group will gather for dinner at 7:00pm with a more formal orientation in the morning.
There are several airlines that fly into La Paz from the San Francisco Bay Area. The airport code for La Paz is LAP. Several clients have been unhappy with flights into La Paz that were cancelled last minute. Perhaps you should consult a personal travel agent if you really want to fly into La Paz. We don’t recommend it.
We have found good rates at Kayak.Com as well as booking directly from most major airlines into San Jose Del Cabo.
This first-class shuttle from San Jose Del Cabo Airport to La Paz is comfortable and reasonably priced (approximately $35 per person, one way) and is about a 3 hour drive. For the most current shuttle schedule visit: Baja Shuttle (note that prices are listed in Pesos but expect to pay approximately $35 one way). However, if you arrive later than 3:00pm you may need to catch a taxi to the bus station, then a bus to La Paz.
Important:: Please hold off booking your shuttle if traveling through San Jose del Cabo on November 15th. We can help arrange a private non-stop private van from San Jose Del Cabo Airport to our hotel in La Paz.
We will update you once we receive travel plans from our group members. Cost will be split among the travelers.
You might want to extend your trip and spend a few more days exploring Loreto. Our Blue Water crew plans to stay a few days. It’s an interesting town to explore. As you check flight options departing from Loreto, the best flights back to the San Francisco Bay Area as of April 5st 2022 include Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays although this may change so review your options at Kayak.Com
On Day 8 (November 22nd) our Blue Water crew plans to scout the historic San Javier Mission and you may join us!. We will learn about the life of the Rancheros as we visit a working ranch in the stunning Sierra de la Giganta Mountains. Our day will include learning about the indigenous cultures of the region (overnight accommodations, meals or activities are not included after our trip officially ends on November 22nd, but we will help make arrangements).
On November 23rd, the day after our trip officially ends, you may choose to join us as we explore Loreto National Marine Park, one of the very best places in the world to observe Fin whales that are year round residents of The Sea of Cortez. Our day will include snorkeling among colorful reef fish and hopefully a visit by common or bottlenose dolphins that frequent Loreto National Park. Our blue water crew may travel home on Thanksgiving, November 24th TBD.
Please arrange your flight home from Loreto anytime on November 22nd or the day you choose to depart.
