On Day One we meet at 12:30, load our camping provisions into double sea kayaks and launch into the sparkling clear water of Loon Lake. We will have a leisurely paddle to our campsite with plenty of time for a swim (or snorkel) in the cool freshwater. The warm granite rocks that line the lake are great for relaxing as others swim, kayak or explore. Fishing is reportedly quite good.
After setting up base camp, we’ll relax and enjoy the beauty of this rugged wilderness, home to osprey, deer, marmots and black bears among other species.
There are several options for Day Two and Three. A vary scenic and moderate hike to Spider Lake is possible and allows for a panoramic view of the expansive Desolation Wilderness area. Single and tandem sea kayaks are available for use anytime. Personal instruction including rescue skills is possible from an ACA certified sea kayaking instructor.
On our Last Day, we’ll kayak, swim, soak in the sun and explore the inlets of the pristine waterway as we make our way back to the launch site by 2:00 pm.
